1. SUMMARY. Under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC) was awarded funds to help “prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus, domestically or internationally, for the 2020 Federal election cycle.” On October 20, 2020, the Wisconsin Elections Commission approved a COVID-19 reimbursement program for counties that will award up to $10,000 per county of our federal CARES grant for permissible pandemic related federal election expenditures.
2. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION. Under the County CARES for Elections Subgrant (“County CARES”) each Wisconsin County may request reimbursement of eligible expenses. Upon receipt of an eligible expense submission, the WEC will reimburse up to $10,000 to each county. Requests for more than $10,000 will be considered by the Commission if funds remain available.
Counties must submit their reimbursement requests no later than
4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2020.
3. AUTHORIZED USES. Eligible expenses under County CARES include costs “to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus, domestically or internationally, for the 2020 Federal election cycle.” The funds are not intended to cover normal elections expenses. 4. HOW DO COUNTIES APPLY? Complete and return the County Cares for Elections Subgrant Reimbursement Request Form and Certification form to @email no later than 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2020.
