The United States Postal Service (USPS) will implement a price increase on July 14, 2024. This change could affect the return of absentee envelopes for the upcoming August 13, 2024, Partisan Primary election, as voters may return absentee ballots by mail after this price increase occurs. An absentee ballot mailed after July 14th without adequate postage may be returned to sender or be held for postage due.
USPS recommends that municipalities sending absentee return envelopes with metered postage apply the new meter rate of 73 cents ($0.73) for a 1 oz. piece of mail, which will be the price starting July 14, 2024. (A 2 oz. piece of mail would be $1.01). Factoring in the increase will ensure no additional postage is due.
Municipalities using Forever Stamps can continue using them, as the stamps are not affected by the postage increase.
