The Wisconsin Elections Commission has been advised that a voter registration mailing will start arriving in Wisconsin on January 14, 2020. The mailing is from the Voter Participation Center (VPC) and the Center for Voter Information (CVI), which are nonprofit voter registration groups that are not affiliated with the State.
The VPC/CVI mailing will contain an older version of the Wisconsin voter registration application with some information for the recipient pre-filled on the form. Instructions and a cover letter will also be included that provide voters with context for the mailing and information to help them understand the voter registration process and proof of residence requirements. Examples of two different mailings being sent to Wisconsin residents are attached to this communication. The first is to voters who VPC/CVI believes are not currently registered to vote. The second encourages registered voters, who VPC/CVI believes have recently moved, to update their registration address.
VPC/CVI tells us they are sending this mailing to 133,458 people in 1,762 Wisconsin municipalities. A list containing the number of mailings sent to voters in each of these municipalities has also been provided for your reference below. If your municipality is represented on the list from VPC/CVI you may receive one or more of these voter registration applications. The applications should be treated as any other voter registration forms you may receive by mail. Please review them to ensure all required information and supporting documentation have been provided by the voter. Clerks should not process forms that are missing required information or are not accompanied by an acceptable proof of residence document. Instead, please contact the voter to request proof of residence or the information that is missing from the form.
VPC/CVI has made information about their process available on its website. The website also contains an electronic form that voters can use to unsubscribe from VPC and CVI’s mailings.
