Third Party Voter Registration Mailing: Center for Voter Information and Voter Participation Center

The Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC) has been advised that a voter registration mailing will start arriving in Wisconsin on July 6, 2020.  The mailing is from the Center for Voter Information (CVI) and the Voter Participation Center (VPC), which are nonprofit voter registration groups that are not affiliated with the State.  CVI and VPC are sending out a letter along with a version of the current Wisconsin Voter Registration Application (EL-131).  An example of the mailing is attached to this communication.

Please note this mailer is not the absentee ballot request informational mailer that the WEC will be sending to voters without an absentee request on file.  That mailing will go out in early September and more information will be provided to you regarding the mailer in advance of the mailing date.

CVI and VPC tells us they are sending this mailing to roughly 327,000 people in 1,524 Wisconsin municipalities.  A list containing the number of mailings sent to voters in each of these municipalities has also been provided for your reference below.  If your municipality is represented on the list from CVI and VPC, you may receive one of these voter registration forms.  The voter registration form should be treated as any other voter registration form you may receive by mail.  Please review them to ensure all required information and supporting documentation have been provided by the voter.  Clerks should not process forms that are not accompanied by an acceptable copy of proof of residence.  Instead, please contact the voter to request a copy of acceptable proof of residence.

CVI and VPC have made information about their process available on their website: https://www.centerforvoterinformation.org/cvi-privacy-page/.  The website also contains an electronic form that voters can use to unsubscribe from CVI and VPC’s mailings: https://www.centerforvoterinformation.org/unsubscribe/.
