The WEC Public Information Office is pleased to offer a templated news release form that will allow clerks participating in the post-election audit to insert their own information and details about their required audits and easily share that data with their communities.
In the templated news release, clerks will find useful language that describes the equipment audit process, an explanation of how jurisdictions are selected for audits, and what the WEC’s role is in the audit process. Clerks are encouraged to download the template and customize it for their communities by filling in the information highlighted in yellow.
The provided news release template also explains to readers the difference between the post-election audits in which 10 percent of municipalities are randomly selected for audit and the pre-election tests in which every municipality participates in order to test the accuracy of the equipment before voting begins.
If you are performing a post-election audit, the WEC recommends publishing a news release based upon the template once you have completed your audit and reviewed the outcome. If there is a discrepancy in the results, you may wish to wait to discuss the discrepancy once a full analysis has been conducted by the WEC.
The template for the audit-related news release is available for download on this page.
