Poll Worker Volunteer Opportunity: Polling Place Exhibit

Municipal clerks, please share this communication with your election inspectors.

Every October, the State of Wisconsin’s Board for People with Developmental Disabilities hosts the Self Determination Conference at the Kalahari Convention Center in the Wisconsin Dells. The Conference endeavors to empower Self-Advocacy and Self-Direction for people with developmental disabilities and the people who support them. It’s a very fun event and is Wisconsin’s biggest event for people with disabilities (over 800 people attended in 2023).

On Tuesday October 22nd from 8am-4pm, the Wisconsin Elections Commission and the Disability Vote Coalition will have a Polling Place exhibit where conference attendees can practice going through all the steps of voting in person on Election Day. There will be stations set up to practice everything from signing the poll book, showing photo ID to get a ballot, and using accessible voting equipment. In order to make this exhibit a success, we will need 8 poll workers throughout the day to man the poll book and issue ballots.

This event is two weeks before Election Day, so it's great practice to make sure you're ready for November. However, the focus of this event is on the voters, so poll workers will need to be self-sufficient and already know how to complete the task at the station they sign up for.

Poll workers can sign up for 4-hour shifts from 8am-12pm or 12pm-4pm at either the poll book or ballot table. Interested poll workers can follow this link to sign up for a slot: Sign Up and email @email with questions.
