Court of Appeals Issues Stay in Drop Box Case until February 15, 2022

The Wisconsin Court of Appeals issued a stay this afternoon of the Waukesha County Circuit Court decision in the Teigen v. WEC case regarding the use of absentee ballot drop boxes and who can return an absentee ballot on behalf of a voter. The stay means the ruling issued by the Circuit Court will not take effect until February 15, 2022, provided further relief is not granted by the Court of Appeals before that date.  The decision in this case is currently under appeal and updates will be provided as they become available.

A copy of the Order is attached to this message as a courtesy.  Please review this decision with your municipal attorney to determine if any changes to your ballot collection procedures are appropriate.

Please contact the WEC Help Desk at @email or by phone at (608)261-2028 with any questions you may have.  Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
