Over the past month, the Wisconsin Elections Commission has been conducting regional train-the-trainer tabletop exercise (TTX) events throughout Wisconsin. The goals of these events included demonstrating a TTX training format and soliciting feedback from participants to assemble a comprehensive election security training package with the expectation that the materials will be used to facilitate training for local municipal election officials. The overarching desired outcome of this election security training is to help counties and municipalities assess their current policies and procedures as they relate to election security – operational, physical, and cyber security. In addition, and based on those assessments, we also wish to aid in increasing security awareness and preparedness to ensure we are all doing our best to keep elections secure in Wisconsin.
We have compiled training materials and resources for you to use to conduct an Election Day Tabletop Exercise (TTX) and they are located on the Learning Center website (https://www.electiontraining.gab.wi.gov) under the Elections Security TTX tile. As a reminder, we are here to support your efforts with this training initiative. Additionally, please report when these trainings are conducted and the number of participants. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions, concerns, or need assistance.
Thank you to everyone who hosted and participated in the regional exercises. Based on your feedback, we believe they were successful events from which participants left with a new awareness about election security and with ideas about how to improve election security in their own counties and/or municipalities, all while hopefully having a little fun!
