Clerk comm. re Administrator position 2.27.18.pdf51.84 KB

As you may have heard by now, I have decided not to pursue continuing as Administrator of the Wisconsin Elections Commission, and am requesting that the Commission appoint a new Administrator at its special meeting this Friday. You can view the press release we issued as well as my letter to members of the Elections Commission at this link:

In the short term, I plan to continue with the WEC in the capacity of Staff Counsel, and will be able to assist with the transition to a new Administrator as well as the other important work of the agency. I anticipate that I will leave the agency at some point over the next two months or so. So this is not goodbye yet but I wanted to give all of our local partners a heads up as to this decision and my plans.

As my letter to the Commission states, I have appreciated the opportunity to work with our great staff and many partners at the federal, state and local level. This position offers unique experiences and opportunities to contribute to our democratic process and the fair and efficient administration of elections. All of you have been a part of what has made my work at the state elections agency so special.

Beginning with the Government Accountability Board after serving as municipal attorney for three cities, I have always retained a great respect and appreciation for the work of municipal and county clerks and other local officials. My experience taught me that the heavy lifting could only be accomplished at the local level, and that there was not always one solution to the same challenges.

I appreciate all of the support that you have given to the WEC and to me personally over the years. I value the relationships and partnerships we have built and trust that they will continue in the future. Please feel free to contact me at (608) 266-0136 or if you have any questions regarding this transition for the agency.
