    As there are many local offices that are subject to recount, with many of them required to start tomorrow, April 6, 2013, G.A.B. is happy to report that we will have staff available to provide assistance over this upcoming weekend.

    As you may have seen from your email this past Wednesday, there will be a likely statewide recount for the office of President of the United States.  Today is the deadline to petition for a recount and WEC staff has received the attached recount petitions this afternoon.  There are two action items that we need each county clerk to respond to quickly, ideally before noon this Monday, November 28 at recounts@wi.gov:    1) estimated recount costs and 2) vote method for recounting the ballots

    This communication should serve as an update on the status of the statewide recount for the President of the United States.  While one candidate has withdrawn their recount petition, we have been informed that the Jill Stein campaign does intend to pay the required fee today and therefore we expect to issue a recount order this afternoon.  The Wisconsin Elections Commission convened a special meeting on November 28, 2016 and approved the staff’s proposed timeline and preliminary procedures for the recount with one exception related to the ending date.  The details of th

  • Recount Order: Statewide Recount for President of the United States

    On November 29, 2016, the Wisconsin Elections Commission issued the attached Recount Order.  The Order requires all County Board of Canvassers to recount the ballots cast for the Office of President of the United States.  The Order sets the recount to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2016.  Questions that clerks have on this order will be addressed at the Recount Planning Webinar taking place tomorrow, starting at 10:00 a.m.

    This communication should serve as an update on the status of the statewide recount for the President of the United States.  The recount began today, December 1, 2016, at 9:00 a.m., and we have received several requests from local election officials to clarify recount procedures.  Thank you for all of your pre-recount preparation.  All of your hard work and dedication will serve to ensure the integrity of the process.

  • Photo ID/Sign-In Log not required for Recount Observers

    We need to clarify our guidance regarding photo ID and the recount canvass boards.  Because canvass boards are subject to the open meetings law, the public is entitled to attend and cannot be required to present a photo ID as a condition of attending the meeting.  Observers also are not required to sign is as a condition of attending a public meeting, but the Board of Canvassers can require candidate representatives to provide their names, although not a photo ID.

    This communication serves as an update on the status of the statewide recount for the President of the United States.  As the recount enters Day 7, many counties have already completed or are in the process of completing their recount and finalizing their results.  The Wisconsin Elections Commission has outlined procedures below for closing out your recount and submitting reimbursement requests.  Thank you again for all of your hard work, dedication and professionalism during this process.
