Commission staff has received questions on how many copies of the ERIC Supplemental Poll List should be at the polls on Election Day. The ERIC list is used to track and record individuals who affirm they have not moved from the address displayed on the list, and the registration of those voters will be changed from inactive status back to active status. Voter numbers are assigned to these individuals and marked on the ERIC Supplemental Poll List after the voter signs it. The ERIC list is part of reconciling the number of voters issued a ballot, both at the polling place and during the official canvass process.

Therefore, the WEC recommends having two copies of the ERIC Supplemental Poll List at the polling place to facilitate this reconciliation. However, because some municipalities are already in the process of printing and distributing that list and may not have planned to print a second copy, the Wisconsin Elections Commission is recommending that counties and municipalities use one of the following two procedures:

  • If the ERIC Supplemental Poll List has not yet been printed or distributed, print two copies to be provided to all polling locations on Election Day. Maintain the two lists on Election Day as you would other duplicate poll lists. Time permitting, this is likely the more efficient process to use.
  • If only one copy of the ERIC Supplemental Poll List has already been printed and distributed, and it is not practical to distribute a second copy to the polling place before Election Day, additional copies may be made after Election Day. Municipalities may then use their normal process for retaining a copy and providing copies to the county and school districts.
