Memo - District Combo Updates Fall 2017.pdf58.71 KB

Elections Commission staff will be updating the maps in WisVote this fall. Recent statute changes require counties to submit updated maps to the state every six months. Commission staff will be using these new maps to update the ward and school district maps in WisVote. Clerks will see many updates and corrections as a result of these new maps, including:

  • Many new wards created by annexations will now appear in WisVote with maps
  • School Districts were updated statewide to match county tax parcel data.

Because of the improved accuracy of the new maps, some clerks may see new district combos created for school splits that they did not previously have in WisVote. Similarly, some school splits that previously existed in WisVote may no longer appear. Commission staff will reach out to all clerks who gain or lose school splits as a result of the new maps to verify the changes.

There are some annexations that occurred after the most recent maps were submitted to the State that may not be included in this update. Commission staff will be reaching out to those clerks to manually make these updates in WisVote.

Many voter addresses will be reassigned to different District Combos as a result of these changes. Any addresses where the district combo changes as a result of the new maps will be flagged for clerks to review. Commission staff will need the help of clerks to ensure that voters are not incorrectly updated as a result of this process.

While the new maps are much more accurate than what previously existed in WisVote, some errors may still exist. These errors will be fixed on an ongoing basis as counties update their maps and submit them to the state.

Updates regarding this project will be posted in early December. Individual municipal clerks will be contacted at that time if they are affected by these updates. If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact the Elections Help Desk at elections@wi.gov.
