The next regular meeting of the Wisconsin Elections Commission will be September 26, 2017, starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Commission’s offices.  I wanted to communicate some of the more significant agenda items to local election officials in case you wanted to make plans to either attend the meeting or provide written input prior to the meeting.  The main decision items on the agenda are the following:

  • State Budget:  Discussion of budget and partial vetoes affecting the Commission and elections administration.
  • Alternate Absentee Voting Proposal:  Presentation by municipal clerks regarding draft legislation.
  • Decertification of Optech Eagle Voting Equipment:  Staff recommends decertification effective at the end of 2018.
  • Election Cost Reports:  Staff recommends modifying costs report to require two identical reports twice each calendar year.
  • Election Night Results Reporting:  Staff recommends not requiring county clerks to post election night results for local special elections.
  • Legislative Agenda: Staff recommends various changes to election-related statutes.

Per the Commission’s usual practice, any member of the public wishing to speak related to items on the agenda or under the Commission’s jurisdiction may make a personal appearance at the beginning of the meeting.  Any written comments can be sent to elections@wi.gov, and will be distributed to Commission members if they are received before the day of the meeting.
