This communication is to announce that the 2018 Calendar of Election Events is now available, but may be subject to change due to pending litigation.  The 2018 calendar includes deadlines from November 2017 through December 2018 and is a valuable tool for election officials to use throughout the election cycle.  The calendar is available in multiple formats including PDF, Word and Excel for your convenience.  Instructions for importing the Excel calendar into Microsoft Outlook Calendar are posted with the calendar.

You can find the 2018 Calendar of Election Events available online at: http://elections.wi.gov/publications/2018-election-events-calendar.

The deadlines in the 2018 calendar reflect Federal Judge Peterson’s order in the One Wisconsin Institute court case.  The court order changed several rules and procedures, including changing the residency requirement for voter registration from 28 days to 10 days and allowing for expanded in-person absentee voting hours.  Both parties to the lawsuit have appealed aspects of the decision to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.  It is difficult to estimate when the Court of Appeals may rule on the appeals, but it is believed the decision will be made sometime during 2017.  A revised 2018 Calendar of Election Events will be published if necessary, but for now the calendar reflects deadlines established by the court order which are not consistent with the language in the statutes.

As a reminder, the calendar of election events no longer includes campaign finance filing deadlines.  For campaign finance deadlines visit the Wisconsin Ethics Commission website: ethics.wi.gov.
