In our ongoing efforts to make sure all our core duties and responsibilities are planned for and implemented for a problem-free, fair, open and transparent election, I am writing to share with you what we have done to ensure election security between now and the November 6, 2012 General and Presidential Election.

While Super Storm Sandy has disrupted life on the East Coast, we do not know of any forecasted weather systems, or any national security-type issues that could adversely affect the smooth-running of the November 6 General and Presidential Election here in Wisconsin.

We have encouraged you to collaborate and plan with your local law enforcement agencies for contingencies for which they may be called into service.  As a refresher, we ask you to review the document titled, “Report on Election-Related Contingency Planning,” January 2007, at

During meetings with our Election Day Security Preparedness representatives of the Department of Military Affairs and Wisconsin Emergency Management, we were apprised that plans are in place, and local and regional personnel are ready to quickly respond to statewide situations that occur and may be designed interfere with/or disrupt the election process.

In addition to conversing with your local law enforcement agencies, we also ask you to touch base with your county Emergency Management personnel as well.  Wisconsin Emergency Management has asked the county Emergency Management personnel to also make contact with you.

We are confident that we have covered all known safety concerns and that in terms of safety, we will have a problem-free and pleasant Election Day experience next Tuesday.  Good luck!
