Today our Help Desk has received contacts from clerks who have been receiving email inquiries from the public about voter photo ID.

The message says simply:


I've been hearing a lot about voter ID laws on the news. What do I need to do to vote?

While the G.A.B. has no specific information about who is responsible for these inquiries, the fact that multiple clerks are receiving them leads staff to believe that possibly an individual or a group may be testing to see whether clerks are providing accurate information about the current state of the voter photo ID law and the requirements to vote in Wisconsin.

We wanted to give you a heads-up.  If you receive such inquiries from the public, you may choose to respond with this message:

Wisconsin’s voter photo ID law is currently on hold due to court order, and at this time no photo ID is required for Wisconsin voters to receive a ballot.
