Important Note Regarding 2024 General Election Candidate Tracking Documents

Due to the recent passage of 2023 Wisconsin Act 94 creating new legislative district maps, there are important considerations to keep in mind when reviewing the 2024 candidate tracking documents.

Notification of Noncandidacy List: Due to 2023 Wisconsin Act 94, a candidate running for a state Senate or Assembly seat in November 2024 must seek election in newly drawn districts. In addition to incumbents up for election in 2024 who do not plan to seek another term, Assembly and Senate incumbents up for election in 2024 are encouraged to file a notification of noncandidacy if they plan to seek election in a differently numbered district. Due to the newly drawn maps, this is likely to be the case for many of the incumbents seeking election in 2024.

This means that a notification of noncandidacy filed by an incumbent may not necessarily indicate this candidate does not plan to run for election in 2024.

Campaign Finance Registration Statement: A state candidate’s name will appear on the Candidates Tracking by Office document if a candidate has filed a CF-1 Campaign Finance Registration Statement with the Ethics Commission. However, due to the recent passage of new legislative maps, the district that a candidate is registered under on the Candidates Tracking by Office document may not necessarily be the ultimate district to which the candidate plans to seek election, especially if an incumbent hasn’t updated their registration statement since 2022. Candidates have until June 3, 2024 at 5 p.m. to make their final campaign registration statement selection.
