Local Candidates

Getting on the Ballot

Candidates for local offices must file ballot access forms with their local clerk.  The forms are all available from the Wisconsin Elections Commission.  Click the heading below for a page with the appropriate documents. 

There are important residency requirements for local candidates.  Please review the Wisconsin Candidate Eligibility rules.

Partisan Ballot Access Documents

  • Sheriff
  • County Clerk
  • County Treasurer
  • Clerk of Circuit Court
  • Coroner
  • Register of Deeds

Non-Partisan Ballot Access Documents

  • County Executive
  • County Supervisor
  • Municipal Offices (including mayor, alderperson, trustee, supervisor, municipal clerk and treasurer, constable, municipal judge, assessor)
  • Multi-Jurisdictional Municipal Judge
  • School District Candidates
  • Special District Candidates

Registered Write-In Candidates

To be a registered write-in candidate for an election, all local office candidates must file a Campaign Registration Statement with their local clerk by 12:00 p.m. (noon) the Friday before the election.
