Final Recount Costs, Refund Update

The attached spreadsheet contains detailed final costs of the 2016 Presidential Recount from all 72 counties.

The Wisconsin Elections Commission issued a refund to the Stein Campaign for the amount under the estimate on January 13.

We have been asked why some counties' estimates were so much higher than the actual costs.

Recount Cost Update -- 71 of 72 counties reporting

UPDATE: 71 of 72 Wisconsin counties have submitted their actual recount costs for reimbursement.  Brown County's figures will not likely be available until next week. Also Milwaukee County's numbers are now final.

So far, the 71 counties have reported a total of $1,859,299.91 in actual costs, which is $1,848,703.54 LESS than they originally estimated the recount would cost.

Brown County originally estimated a total of $190,337 in recount costs.

Presidential Recount Is Complete

The Wisconsin Elections Commission has certified recount results for President of the United States.

We will be posting minutes of the county boards of canvassers as they are provided to the Commission.

Recount is 95 percent complete.

After Friday's counting, 65 of 72 counties are now complete.  All are on schedule to finish by Monday.

2,826,909 ballots have been recounted, approximately 95 percent of all presidential ballots cast (2,975,313).

The net change is now +1,442 votes: Trump/Pence +628, Clinton/Kaine +653, Castle/Bradley +17, Johnson/Weld +76, Stein/Baraka +68, Moorehead/Lilly +14, and De la Fuente/Steinberg -14.


Recount Update: 88.5% of ballots recounted

Sixty out of Wisconsin's 72 counties have now completed the recount, and all appear to be on schedule to finish by the deadline on Monday.

The total number of ballots counted stands at 2,635,670 which is approximately 88.58% of the total ballots cast for President (2,975,313).

The net change is +1,322 votes:

47 of 72 counties have now completed the recount.

Approximately 82 percent of ballots have been recounted.

Trump/Pence originally led Clinton/Kaine by 22,177. So far, not including the City of Milwaukee, Clinton/Kaine have gained 61 more votes than Trump/Pence, but still trail.

Including the December 7 results, Trump/Pence are up 495 votes, Clinton/Kaine are up 556 votes, Castle/Bradley are up 20 votes, Johnson/Weld are up 63 votes, Stein/Baraka are up 64 votes, Moorehead/Lilly are up 8 votes, and De la Fuente/Steinberg are up 15 votes.

Statement on St. Croix County voting equipment questions

Questions have been raised by some recount observers in St. Croix County about the security of voting equipment.  The Wisconsin Elections Commission has been in contact with the St. Croix County Clerk and the equipment manufacturer, Elections Systems & Software (ES&S), and is confident that this is not an issue that would have affected the accuracy of the results reported by the equipment.

Recount Update: 17th SD -- Juneau County unofficial numbers in

Updated at 10:12 a.m. with Juneau County's certification.

Late Thursday, Juneau County completed its recount in Senate District 17 and submitted numbers to the G.A.B.; however, the Board of Canvassers still needs to meet later today to sign and certify the results.  We will update once the recount results are official.  Juneau County has now certified its results.

This morning, G.A.B. staff updated the recount spreadsheet to reflect Juneau County's still-unofficial results:

Richland County has completed its recount of ballots in the 17th Senate District and the spreadsheet has been updated to reflect the latest numbers.  Click here for spreadsheet.

The G.A.B. is still waiting for recount results from Juneau County, which is still in progress.  We do not have an estimate of when Juneau County will be complete.
